Our Father, you are the Lord merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. As we rejoice in your goodness and give thanks for your bounty, we must confess to sin. Failing to glorify you in all things, often we have neither honored you as a Father, nor served you as a Master, nor feared you as a Judge. Thus, all is not well. The slate is not clean. Our guilt is before us. With shame we admit to preferring the ways of this fallen world to the ways of your infallible word. Our desires have misled us. Your guidance we have rejected, your laws we have forsaken, your wisdom we have spurned, and our own devices we have sought. You would be just to condemn us. We are without excuse, but not without hope. Please forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
