September 12, 2021: David Dances Before The Ark 2 Samuel 6:1-5,14-19 Praise In Dance Sunday School Lesson “And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals” (II Samuel 6:5).
David, having humbled the Philistines by defeating them on two different occasions now felt the need to bring the Ark of the Covenant to the city of David, Jerusalem, so that it would be near him, and also be an ornament and strength to his new capital city.
“The Ark of God” was also called the Ark of the Covenant because it contained the two stone tables with the Ten Commandments (see Exodus 25:16, 21). It was a sacred portable chest which had the mercy seat and cherubim built as part of it. It was a gold covered wooden chest with two cherubim or angels mounted on both ends, and between the cherubim was the mercy seat (see Hebrews 9:2-5). Standard Lesson Commentary
