This sermon is a part two on Biblical Leadership from
Luke 6:12-16 that discusses Jesus' personal commission of twelve Apostles. The sermon starts with an encouragement of how God changed the world and brought the gospel even to us through twelve ordinary men. And that God still wants and is doing extraordinary things through ordinary people like us who are KFATEL (Knowledgeable, Faithful, Available, Teachable, Examples, and Loving). The second part of the sermon details the problems and dangers of those who believe and follow modern day "Apostles." Those who claim to be "Apostles" cannot perform the signs, wonders, and miracles of a true Apostle (
2 Cor. 12:12) and thus Biblical churches need discernment that tests, exposes, and warns people of false Apostles and false teachers (
Revelation 2:2) by realizing no one today can truly perform the Apostolic sign gifts of a true Apostle because as Paul said - as the church grows in maturity - certain gifts will cease (
1 Cor. 13:8). Instead of searching and thirsting for signs (
Mathew 12:39) and experiences, churches need to crave the Word and value righteousness and holy living. They need to identify and train Biblical Elders and Deacons to lead the church according to holiness not hype and be led by men that are truly above reproach and meet ALL the Biblical qualifications (
1 Timothy 3,
Titus 1,
1 Peter 5,
Acts 20). If you graciously disagree or maybe the verdict is still out for you as far as what gifts are still for today or whether there are modern "Apostles" - consider the vast and disturbing alternative - the Bible is rejected in terms of sufficiency or as the final authority and is diluted among competing authorities and confusing assortment of "Apostles" with self given titles of authority with their various false doctrines. Consider the danger of Mormon Apostles and Prophet, Catholic Apostolic Succession (Bishops, Cardinals, Pope), and the latest movement called the New Apostolic Reformation (so called "Apostles" like C. Peter Wager and false prophets like Todd Bentley with their false and unverifiable "signs, wonders, and miracles"). Join Truth Bible Church as they study
