Indecision; Matthew 25:14-30
Can’t get something outa my head lately. It’s Indecisiveness. The dangers of indecisiveness. It may be because I’m reading Chapter 8 ‘Act with Audacity’ from The Most Effective Organization in the U.S’ by Commissioner Robert Watson again (for the 4th time) but that what’s on my mind. Some may think that it’s better not to make a decision rather than make a mistake, but I disagree. Mistakes at least have an outcome. And even though the initial outcome is negative, there is still a lesson learned from making the mistake. We learn from our mistakes and grow. If we choose not to make decision at all, the only thing we get is regret for not trying.
If I as an Salvation Army Officer and an Administrator of an ARC decide that it’s better not to step out in faith and make hard decisions, the Center may continue to get by everyday. It may continue run each day, with no worries and no concerns, but how long will that last? (That could never happen) If I as a Christian think that I don’t need to work on my walk and just hold my faith to myself, how long will that last?
The fact is this, we have to may decisions every day. And even if they are hard choices and we’re afraid to make them we will gain something from making them. It’s better to step out in faith and do the hard things.
But, what keeps us from making decisions? What keeps us from the hard choices?
For one, we can’t be afraid of the outcome. We MUST have faith to believe in that the outcome will be greater than the investment.
Invest in your faith. Invest in your relationship with God. Don’t bury it like the servant buried his masters silver in Matthew 25:24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
If we do nothing, we lose it. If we are indecisive, we don’t just sit still we fall back. If we do something and come out cold, we can get it going again, If we do something and get it right we’re HOT. So if we do nothing we’re warm, lukewarm.
We may think that it’s better to just remain as we are.
As long as we don’t use, we can continue to act out as we are, character defects, shortcomings, sin and all.
Revelation 3:15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! 16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! 17 You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
Another issue we face is; Perfectionism. We affraid that there is no way we could ever get it right. It’ll never happen so why try.
Read “Perfectionism’ page 1153, Life Recovery Bible.
If we choose and fail, we may have a regret, but we have an opportunity to correct the mistake and find contentment. You have and chance at fulfillment. When you make a mistake and experience regret, you have an opportunity to correct the mistake and REJOICE. If you choose not to make a decision and play it safe, all you get is regret. Indecisiveness is much worse than trying and failing. Invest in your faith, Try and Do.
Be like the servants that worked with their masters silver. They invested and doubled what they were trusted with. Matthew 25:29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
So, I’m going to keep on making decisions. Hope you do to.
