REVELATION 21.22-27 “The Temple”
-New universe / New Jerusalem
-Beautiful city with 12 gates and 12 wall foundations
-Streets of gold

The Temple and Light (Rev 21.22-27)
Verse 22) -No temple in the New Jerusalem
-Temple mentioned in heaven (Rev 7.15; 11.19; 15.5)
-Heavenly Jerusalem descended / Where is temple?
-Temple is God Himself. God Almighty and the Lamb

-New Jerusalem. Filled with God’s glory
-More glorious than Israel’s temple
-God’s glory illuminates heaven today / Will descend

-Aspects of God’s glory currently hidden on earth
-Why does God hide Himself? / He is merciful (Lam 3.22)
-Sinners cannot stand in His presence (Ex 33.20; Ps 5.5)
-He is a consuming fire (Heb 12.29). Wicked consumed (Ps 37.20)

-Currently / Temple on earth. Every believer (1 Cor 3.16; 6.19; 2 Cor 6.16)
-One day / His presence on the inside will be everywhere
-All creation will be temple / No sin present to separate it from God

Verse 23) -No need of sun or moon
-*Maybe recreated in new creation
-New creation. Light is from God (Isa 60.19) / Gates open / Kings come
-Similar to first day of creation. God was the light (Gen 1.3-5)
-Sun and moon created fourth day (Gen 1.14-19)

-Light in Bible. Symbolic of good (John 1.4-5)
-God defines good / He is holy
-Glory of God removes all darkness from new creation

Verse 24) -Activity in new creation / Not sitting on clouds playing harps
-Nations (the peoples) / Walk in His light
-No occasion for stumbling
-All redeemed are priests to God / Serving Him (1 Pet 2.9)

-Kings of the earth hold nothing back in worship
-Bring their glory and honor into New Jerusalem
-New Jerusalem not only place on new earth

-Still different nations and rulers / Perfect harmony
-All have same purpose. To honor God
-Shows differences and authority not sinful in themselves
-Beautiful and right in submission to God

Verse 25) -Open gates. Unending security / All nations welcome
-No night to lock up gates
-*Maybe no need for sleep with glorified bodies

Verse 26) -All people freely give all things to God
-Godly kings represent the people

Verse 27) -In New Jerusalem. No sin
-Nothing that defiles (Sickness)
-No abominations (False worship)
-No lies (Nothing opposite the truth / No deception)

-No corruption on new earth
-Only redeemed live there. Listed in Book of Life
-Curse removed. No sin or decay
-God’s glory fills the earth. No darkness
-Light represents good and exposes truth
-No place for sin to hide
-Jesus is the light of the world (John 8.12)
-His followers reflect His light / Even today (Matt 5.14-16)
