Demonic forces operate behind the scenes in the governments of nations and kingdoms. In the Old Testament, an angel told Daniel that he was delayed from answering his prayer for twenty-one days because he was hindered by the prince of the kingdom of Persia (Dan. 10:13). The title “prince of the kingdom of Persia” is a reference to a demonic principality. In Revelation 9, John describes four angels who are bound at the river Euphrates and get released at the sounding of the sixth trumpet. Since they were bound, we know these are fallen angels, and they are possibly the demonic forces that ruled four previous world empires in that area: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome.
In an earlier study, we saw the fifth trumpet blast caused men to be tormented for five months. They longed for death, but it escaped them. As these four demons who had been prepared for this very moment are released, they are given the power to kill a third of humanity. These fallen angels destroy multitudes by fire, smoke, and brimstone. Half of the world’s population will be wiped out after these plagues are combined with the previous judgments. Despite seeing the pain, suffering, and death all around, those who survive still refuse to repent of their wicked deeds.
We hope you will join us this Sunday as Pastor David continues his study through the book of Revelation. We will examine the sixth trumpet judgment, which is also known as the second woe. Pastor David will explain the severe consequences these plagues have on humanity and the sins for which mankind refuses to repent, resulting in God’s wrath being poured out upon them. But even in the midst of such dreadful judgment, we will be reminded of the good news that through Jesus Christ forgiveness is available to any who willingly repents.
