After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the Lord had told them, and the Lord accepted Job's prayer. — Job 42:7-9

So here we learn that Job is not the only one in need of repentance. Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar have some business to address as well. And it's interesting how God wants them to reconcile it. He invites them to ask the brother they have offended to bring the burnt offering and sacrifice for them. This is ironic since this is what they determined that Job needed to do. But with this, two things happen. First, they are reconciled to God. Second, they are reconciled to each other.

I think we are all tempted to run from Christian community during hard times. God shows us that this is exactly the wrong thing to do. Both parties should graciously step toward the tension. Because catch this, when God-fearing men come together in penance and prayer, God's glory is accomplished. God takes our imperfections, and they become a perfect witness for Him. And still, today, as we read the book of Job, we see God's glory displayed as a testimony through four types of imperfect men.

Today consider this question. Who is that person you are running from that you need to run to? Seek them out, and pursue the grace of God together.

PRAY THIS: God, I need your grace. But I also need the strength to pursue a relationship with a follower in the faith. I recognize you want me to pursue them today. May they be receptive. And together, may you receive our need for forgiveness and mercy.
