“Satisfied”

The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul, But the stomach of the wicked shall be in want. (Proverbs 13.25)

Are you satisfied?

The book of Proverbs is a collection of wisdom literature, and international missionaries have found that it speaks across cultures. People all over the world understand hunger and have a desire to be fed, to be satisfied. The righteous, followers of God, understand that food is important, but it does not satisfy the soul. They must consume God’s Word to live and grow. The wicked, rebels against God, try to be satisfied in the things of the world. They may eat until they are full, they may earn until they are rich, or they may rise until they have power over many. Without God, the wicked will remain in want. They will not be satisfied with food, riches, or power. They need God, who will satisfy the soul.

You have many desires. Some you may classify as wants and others as needs. Without God, you will never find lasting satisfaction. Jesus taught that we should not put all our focus in pursuing food that perishes. We should seek the food that leads to eternal life (John 6.27). God fed the Israelites in the desert with bread from heaven, manna. This food was needed for survival on earth, but all those people eventually perished (John 6.58). We must seek the Bread that satisfies the soul, that grants eternal life. God’s Word has revealed that Jesus is the Bread of life (John 6.35). Without Jesus, you will die the eternal death. Without Jesus, you will never be satisfied.

Are you satisfied? Take a moment and reflect on your average day. What are you most focused on? Do you spend time in God’s Word? Take a moment and reflect on your average week. What appears to be the most important to you? Do you stay away from church and God’s people? If you are in want, God can satisfy your soul. Seek Him and know Him today.

God, thank You for giving me the Bread from heaven. Thank You that we can be satisfied in Jesus. Give me proper perspective through my days. Mold my desires to Your will. Help me to recognize dissatisfaction and disappointment for what they are and make the proper adjustments in my life. I want to eat to satisfy my soul. Thank You that I can be eternally satisfied in Jesus. Amen.
