Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox. — Proverbs 14:4

There are two unpleasantries here. The unpleasant experience of having no oxen in the manger to plow the field means no food or income for your family. On the other hand, there is the unpleasant experience of heavy and hard work because there is so much work in the fields to do.

So which unpleasantry would you prefer?

If you are like me, you have known both of these situations. The weight of having nothing. The weight of having too much. And my life seems to be a good balance of both. Rarely has my life been a perfect mix between the two — thus, there is always some issue to address.

But the difference between the two unpleasant situations is this — hard work. So if you need work to care for your family, work hard to find it. And if you have a lot of work to do, get out there and do it. But either way, praise the Lord that he motivated you to do by giving you too much or too little.

ASK THIS: Which side of the situation are you on today? Too much? Or too little?

DO THIS: Work hard.

PRAY THIS: God, thank you for giving me both of these seasons in my life. I am content to work hard and do what you have me to do.
