We all are tempted to take offense when someone fails to take our advice. When disaster comes, as we predicted, it's tempting to say, "I told you so!" Paul says essentially the same thing but to a very different purpose. When they meet disaster, Paul reminds them that he had told them so but not to rub salt in their wounds. Rather, he reminds them so they might trust the next thing he will say -- that God has told him that they will be spared. At a moment when they had given up hope, he could be a light in their darkness. Have hope, you can trust God -- see, I told you so!
