What is the nature of repentance? Many scoff at the necessity of repentance, and suggest it belongs to a benighted past. Modern Christians like Bishop John Shelby Spong reject the notion and consider any such talk about evangelism or missionary efforts to convert "sinners" or the "heathen" is arrogant and hostile. But the gospel message itself begins with the preaching of John the Baptist and Jesus, who said, "Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand." This same message continued through the preaching of Peter and Pentecost and Paul in his epistles. Watch as Pastor MacLaren shows from Jeremiah 3:19-4:4 that the message of repentance was integral to the preaching of the old covenant as well. This sermon was preached at First Presbyterian Church in Perkasie, Pennsylvania on August 9, 2015. First Church is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R. Scott MacLaren is the pastor. Our website is found at www.firstchurchopc.org.
