Sermon John 11:47-57 - IT IS EXPEDIENT FOR US THAT ONE MAN SHOULD DIE

So, when we preach or speak the truth it can be offensive. When someone is offended, we may think it is expedient to side step certain truths. We reason; “if we want to grow or save the church we will avoid certain topics.” Too often we forsake truth to try to keep everyone happy. We say, "it is the expedient or practical thing to do." Or is it?

The Council turned their backs on the truth of Jesus Christ to protect their positions and their nation. Do you know they lost everything they were trying to protect? In 70 AD the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and scattered the nation. Everything they thought they were protecting by killing Jesus was lost. They did what was expedient, “It is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.”

History tends to repeats itself.
