Just how important is doctrine? Is doctrine something that is just boring and uninteresting? It is a topic that Paul mentions frequently in his writings. His message to us who read the word of God is that we must have integrity and incorruptibility when it comes to our doctrine. He's not talking about legalism, but studying to show ourselves approved to God, workmen who need not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. Knowing the word of God and being filled with the Spirit will keep us from error and deception in the times we are living in.
