“Such a High Priest . Part 2”
Hebrews 8:1-6 … Spencer DeBurgh
Scriptures used in this teaching/sermon:
Hebrews 8: 1-6
1.Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent[a] that the Lord set up, not man.
3. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.
4. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law.
5. They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things.
For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”
6. But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Hebrews 1: 1-3
1. Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2. but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
3. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
Hebrews 10: 11-14
11. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.
14. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
Acts 7: 51-60
51. “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.
Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute?
And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”
54. Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him.
55. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.
56. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
57. But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him.
58. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him.
And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60. And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
Rev. 3: 19-22
19. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
20. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
21. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.
22. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”
