I) A King is Born!
• Isaiah writes of Messiah during Assyrian exile, 722BC.
• Isaiah 8:19-22 Dismal picture. Appears no hope for future.
• 9:1-3 Light of hope comes.
• 9:6 A child born, to govern/rule all.
• If Messiah is in charge, we don’t have to be!
II) Wonderful, Counselor!
• Name (honor, reputation, fame). Identity.
• Wonderful miracle, marvelous.
• Counselor, rules, counsels, advises. (Colossians 1:16).
III)Might God
• Mighty: Strong, valiant, warrior; Powerful, Champion.
• “Mighty God” found 3x (Isaiah 10:21; Jeremiah 32:18).
• Deuteronomy 10:17 similar terms used.
• This title to a newborn is remarkable. Refers to baby as the
incarnation of God, God in the flesh.
• Paul describes Jesus: Philippians 2:6-8.
• Everlasting Father: glimpse to His unique nature. Eternal,
deity, loving & kind to all His creation.
• Only thru Jesus we receive eternal life. (John 14:6)
IV) Prince of Peace
• Thru this King, we find genuine peace.
• Luke 2:14 The angels pronounce peace to all men.
• God extends His favor & blessing to restore relationships –
peace with one another and with God. He is Prince of Peace.
V.7 Whole section is brought together, points to Messiah:
• His rule and peace will increase, have no end.
• He reigns upon the throne of David forever.
• God’s promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ alone.
• Jesus rules with justice and righteousness.
• Jesus’ rule is forever.
• The Lord’s zeal ensures this will come.
• Jesus born as King, mighty God, Prince of peace. God offers
gift of life thru Jesus, a gift we need to accept.
