Paul, an apostle — not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead — Galatians 1:1

Today we begin a journey through the book of Galatians. It's only six chapters, and it will maybe take you 20-minutes to read the book in its entirety. So I would encourage you to do that. But I am going to take about six weeks to get through this. And I hope our daily journey blesses you.

In verse one, I want you to notice the word "from." Paul says he is a man called "not from men" but "from" Jesus who was "from" the dead. And using the preposition "from," Paul legitimizes three things: the message he preached, Jesus who gave him the message, and what Jesus did to legitimize the message — he rose from the dead. And thus, Paul established why he had the right to write to the churches in Galatia. But Paul is not trying to elevate himself, his work, or his message. He is trying to elevate Jesus, his work, and his message. Paul is simply a messenger of the message.

So why is this so important?

Well, it's important because of all the disinformation that was circulating in his day. People were perverting the message of divine accomplishment and mixing it with human achievement. So just when you thought you were living in times of excessive disinformation, you are not. The opponents of the message in Paul's day were just as twisted as they are in our day. We battle with untruth just like people did then. Nothing's changed.

And yet, in verse one, Paul tells us how to find truth in a world of disinformation. We find truth by testing who the message is from, what they said, and what they did. That's it. Let me say that again, who the message is from, what they said, and what they did. And in the same way, Paul followed Jesus, what he said, and what he did.

And this is what every God-fearing man needs to be doing today. When you hear something that sounds like disinformation, you need to assess who it is from, what they're saying, and what they're doing. If you find in them any hint of a lack of integrity between those three things, then you need to go to God's Word immediately and see what doesn't match with who Jesus was, what he said, and what he did. If something doesn't match, then don't follow! I don't care who it comes from. It could come from a pastor or even me — cause, fellas, the most dangerous disinformation in our day comes right from the church, which is the topic of this book. Disinformation in the church.
