Series: The Bible, An Overview
An overview of the book of Ezra
This is the first post-captivity book that records the miraculous return of the children of Israel from captivity in Babylon to Jerusalem. It also has prophetic implications.
Ezra was a priest, teacher and intercessor who lead the 2nd group of Israelites out of Babylon to Jerusalem. The temple was already built by the first group.
Lessons to Christians from the Book of Ezra:
- The very first thing they did on their return was to build an alter to offer up sacrifices.
The very first step as worship to the Lord is giving ourselves as a living sacrifice.
Worship without a sacrifice is really not worship.
- Whenever God begins to do a work the enemies (Satan and his cohorts) will not sit
by and do nothing - they will fight against His plans. That has and will happen in our lives
and the life of the church.
- Are we using difficulties in our lives as an excuse not to serve God?
When we put God first, God will take care of us.
- God can even use wicked leaders/kings.
- God had raised up many to do His work in the past - He will raise up some today as well.
