In
Matthew 16:18, our Lord said, “...I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” He said this with the cross before Him, knowing that he would be offering Himself as a ransom for many, making possible, “the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His flesh” (
Hebrews 10:20). The Father had this great sacrifice in mind when He instructed Moses about that “curtain” and the Tabernacle. And after He gave him all the detailed instructions about building of the tabernacle and its elements, He informed him of the workmen He had chosen to build it. God was really the One building the tabernacle, using Moses and his chosen workmen, as His hands to build it. In the same way, Christ is building His church, His body of redeemed saints—“...like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (
1 Peter 2:5,
9). And just like the Father, He is building His church with chosen workmen who are called, consecrated craftsmen, doing the work of God for the glory of God.
