Let a man meet a she-bear robbed of her cubs rather than a fool in his folly. — Proverbs 17:12
This is a great proverb. And I like it because it illustrates how foolish a fool will be. He is often so foolish that he puts himself in unnecessarily dangerous situations. For example, who would ever swipe a momma bear's babies and then go looking for the enraged momma bear? Well, there is only one person stupid enough to do this — it's a fool who loves his folly.
So the point is don't make one foolish decision, only to follow it with another foolish decision, and then be devoured by your own folly. Only fools do stuff like that. Don't be a fool.
But what's so ironic about this is that there are plenty of men who have been down this road. King David is a perfect example. King David sleeps with Bethsheba. Bethsheba gets pregnant. Then David attempts to conceal his sin. But he discovers that he can't, so by proxy, he murders Bethsheba's husband, Uriah. One foolish decision, led to another, and another, and another. And thus David is devoured by his foolishness.
And guess who is giving us this wisdom today? The son who knew of his father's foolishness. Solomon, the wise son of King David.
ASK THIS: What foolish decision have you recently made, and have you stopped before making another foolish decision?
DO THIS: Learn from your first act of foolish and correct course.
PRAY THIS: God, forgive me for mocking and finding pleasure in the misfortune of others.
PLAY THIS: Like a Fool — Matt Maher.
