This sermon concludes a study of John 5 - one of the key passages in the Bible that explicitly states that Jesus is God. The two previous sermons looked at the DISPLAY of Jesus' divine power (John 5:1-16 - the actual healing of the sick man at the pool of Bethesda) and the ensuing divine DECLARATIONS (John 5:17-30) that Jesus made concerning His equality with God. This sermon concludes with a look at the DEFENSE of Jesus' claim to deity in John 5:31-47 by four key witnesses: John the Baptist's PREACHING, Jesus' MIRACLES, God the Father's VOICE, and the Scriptures PROPHECIES. Like an actual court case - we invite you to investigate the evidence that Jesus is who He claimed to be - The Son of God who is EQUAL with God (John 8:24). And if the testimony of John 5 and these witnesses are true - especially the testimony of God the Father - how should one respond? The only wise choice is to REPENT and BELIEVE that Jesus is Lord or otherwise in effect call God the Father and the other witnesses "liars."
