The little early morning statement that the fig tree cursed by Jesus has withered from it’s roots up, has more to do with the temple and Israel than might first appear.

The significance for national Israel and the corrupt Jerusalem temple cannot be underestimated.

The temple is rotten to it’s core.

The temple is fundamentally - from the roots - replaced by Jesus as the centre of Israel - and the centre of Israel’s faith.

Mark 11:20 Early in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. 21 Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”
