“The Great Declaration on Salvation”
Acts 15:6-22

Introduction: The Jerusalem Council meets to discuss Paul’s mission and message on Salvation. They’re going to discuss whether it is a ritual or ceremony or accepting the whole law in order to obtain or necessary for Salvation. Acts 15:1-35.

I. The Council Met a Second Time v 6 (cf. v 45)
II. Peter’s Great Statement: v 7-11
“All are SAVED by the GRACE of the LORD Jesus Christ.”
A. He recalled that God had SAVED Cornelius and his household. (Acts 10:44-48) v 7
1. They BELIEVED while hearing the WORD v 7 (cf. Acts 10:44) (cf. Ro. 10:17)
2. God gave the Holy Spirit when they BELIEVED (v 8) (cf. Acts 10:45-47)
3. God PURIFIED their hearts by FAITH, not by a ritual v 9
B. He confessed the yoke of the LAW v 10
1. Man’s INABILITY to bear it and to keep it perfectly
C. He reminded them of their basic BELIEF v 11
1. We are saved by GRACE
III. Paul and Barnabus’ great declaration: v 12
A. That God alone worked the miraculous SIGNS and WONDERS to verify the message
1. Salvation by GRACE
IV. James’ great declaration: v 13-18
“That all men must be able to turn to God apart from the burden of RITUAL and LAW” v 13
A. He SUPPORTED Peter’s great declaration v 14
B. He quoted SCRIPTURES as support v 15 (Amos 9:11-12)
1. The Lord is to RETURN v 16
2. There will be JEWISH believers v 17a
3. There will be GENTILE believers v 17b
C. He claimed that God foreknew and destined salvation by FAITH v 18
