Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel; take away the wicked from the presence of the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. — Proverbs 25:4-5

The processes of these verses sound easy, but they are not. For example, removing the dross from silver is quite involved. First, you have to find a good piece of iron ore. Then once you have it, you need to put in a crucible and superheat it to release the sulfur and continue to increase the heat until the lead oxide (or dross) separates from the silver in the ore. Then the dross in a liquid state will rise to the surface where it can be skimmed off. And silver, which is heavier, will fall to the bottom of the crucible. It's a pretty involved process.

In the same way, so is the leadership of a king. Or the leadership of any man as a husband, father, and leader in this world. Leadership is highly involved, and it requires hard work. First, you will have to search for the raw resources, and once you find those resources, you will have to refine them. It will require breaking, heating, stirring, and skimming to remove the impurities. This is leadership, fellas. It's a slow and involved process, and it refines to create value in us and others. And in the end, it is how we establish marriages, families, and businesses in righteousness.

So today, consider what needs to be refined in you and in the people you lead at home and work. Then lead by skimming out the impurities, and you will be established in righteousness.
