The Innocent One
Luke 23:1–25
Pastor Philip Miller
As Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, He fully understands the suffering that awaits Him—betrayal, denial, injustice, and death. Despite asking the Father if the cup of suffering might pass, He willingly submits: “Not my will, but yours be done.” Meanwhile, His disciples sleep, unaware of the weight of the moment. Though darkness is closing in, Jesus stands as the faithful and sovereign One, choosing the path of obedience for our sake.
The Slandered Savior
- Jesus is falsely accused before Pilate and Herod. Though innocent, He bears our shame and stands silently as accusations swirl. He is calm, composed, and completely in control.
The Silent Sufferer
- Jesus is mocked and questioned, yet He makes no defense. He carries our sorrows and suffers unjustly, choosing obedience over retaliation.
The Substitute Son
- Though declared innocent multiple times, Jesus is rejected and Barabbas is set free. Jesus willingly takes our place, atoning for our sin by offering Himself.
Takeaway: Jesus saves our souls
- He is the Faithful One—betrayed, yet not a victim.
- He is the Omniscient One—denied, yet never vindictive.
- He is the Sovereign One—condemned, yet not vanquished.
- Even in the darkest hour, Jesus is King. He wields power in the dark.
When we face darkness—rejection, loss, suffering—we can look to Jesus. He sits with us in the dark, and because He is with us, we know we’ll be okay.
