Concerning verse 9, God, before the foundation of the world, according to his eternal and immutable purpose, and the secret counsel of his will, has chosen us in Christ unto everlasting life, all to the praise of his glorious grace. In verse 10, by virtue of his death and resurrection, Christ has already assumed headship over the church. And although behind the scenes, he already rules the universe (Acts 2:32-36; Colossians 1:15-20). But a future focus is dominant in this verse. Paul wanted to impress upon his readers that the visible unity of the church in the inauguration of Christ’s eventual visible reign over all things.

Rev. Dr. Robert Adams, Jr. became pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church ARP, in Merritt Island, Florida, in 2008, after serving as an intern and associate pastor since 2002. He was ordained in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Synod in 2003. He is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary (M.Div, 2002 and D.Min, 2011). In his pastorate, he is passionate in and committed to an expository teaching ministry. Bobby (as he is known to most of his members) has been married to Susie since 1985, and they have one son.
