"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)

Marches for Jesus began in England in the 1980's when some small churches decided to take what they were experiencing in the churches into the streets. On May 10, 1987, Icthus Fellowship in London joined with Youth with a Mission and Pioneer Ministries to organize a prayer and praise march through the streets of London. To their surprise, more than 15,000 people turned out, in spite of pouring rain.

Marching in the United States - The vision for March for Jesus USA began in 1989 when Tom Pelton, now the Coordinator for the Americas, began organizing praise marches in Austin, Texas. March for Jesus USA was established in 1991 and in less than a decade has expanded to over 650 cities in the United States and hundreds of other cities throughout the Americas.

May 23, 1992 marked the first Nationwide March for Jesus. The idea of the whole nation marching together for Jesus quickly grew. On May 23, 1992, Christians openly exalted Jesus in 142 U.S. cities and in 25 European countries. 300,000 marched for Jesus in the U.S., joining another 300,000 overseas.

"The March for Jesus" is a dream come true for people who could care less about Biblical theology & doctrine. Bringing ecumenical "unity" to Mormons, Roman Catholics & others who define "Jesus" in an manner they choose as they "march" together under one banner. "Ecumenical" becomes a dangerous term when it is combined with movement and applied to churches and Christians. Webster defines ecumenical movement as a planned bringing together of all Christians into visible unity; most ecumenical organizations define the ecumenical movement as a means to show the world all Christians are in unity.

The claim is made that this is to answer Jesus' prayer in John 17:22. While Webster does not have be concerned about the definition of Christian and unity, we do! The fact is that the current ecumenical movement always brings together some who are true to the doctrines of the Word of God with some who are not. There is no Christian unity where there is not unity in the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3).

In His prayer Jesus specified the kind of persons who can be in unity as He is in unity with the Father (John. 17:22b). He made clear the desired unity would be a spiritual unity (17:5; 10:30), unity in Truth (17:17), and in agape Love (17:23,26). The fact that seems to be commonly overlooked is that Jesus' prayer HAS ALREADY been answered and continues to be answered until He claims His Bride.

Unfortunately for the "March for Jesus" paraders, their "unity" is not built on Biblical truth & thus they trample it underfoot & fulfill the saying of the prophet Isaiah 59:14, "And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter."
