After posting guards, the Jews prepared for battle. Nehemiah exhorted the Jews to remember the Lord who was great and awesome and fight for their families and homes. Their preparation frustrated the plans of their enemies. Nehemiah gave glory to God for it. Half of the workers rebuilt the wall, while the other half stood guard fully armed for battle. Nehemiah told them that "our God will fight for us".
