“The Over-Ripe Harvest,” John 4:35-39

Here in verse 35, Jesus said: “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” In other words, Jesus is saying ‘for the harvest is ripe, the task is urgent.’


I. There was a REVELATION of Christ, the Savior (John 1:14)
A. She SAW a man (a Jew, Messiah, Savior) (vv 9-10)
B. She HEARD absolute truth (vv 10, 13-14) (Ro. 10:17)
C. She FELT the warmth of Divine love and understanding (v 14)
II. There was a REALIZATION of Sin (vv 16-18)
A. Her PAST sins begin to race through her mind (v 16)
B. Her PRESENT state brought genuine conviction to her heart (v 17)
C. The POWER of sin can be broken by the Savior
III. There was a Request for Salvation (vv 15-27)
A. “Sir GIVE me this water.” (vv 15, 10, 13-14)
B. “I KNOW that Messiah cometh” (v 25)
C. “Is not this the CHRIST?” (v 29)
IV. There was the RECEIVING Christ (v 39)
A. There was faith to TRUST Him as the Savior (v 39a) (Ro. 19:9; 1 John 1:12)
B. There was faith to TELL her friends of Him (v 39b) (Mark 16:15; Matthew 29:19)
C. The WITNESS at the well started a great Revival (v 39a)
V. This can be REPEATED by Believers today (v 35)
A. LIFT up our eyes and look, look from where you are around the world (v 35)
B. LOST men, women, boys and girls
C. LEAVE your “water pots” (v 28a), pleasure, etc., and “go”(v 28b)
VI.This can be REPEATED by Believers today (v 35)

VII. There is the REAPING and REJOICING (v 36)
A. There is the GOING into the field of labor (v 28b) (Luke 14:21b) (Luke 14:21b)
B. There is the GATHERING in the fruit with love (Ps. 126:6)
C. There is the GLORYING in finding the Lord (Luke 15:7a; Luke 15:10)
