“The Progress of the Gospel” Colossians 1:3-8

Here in this passage we’re going to see the progress of the Gospel as evidence in the life of a believer. Paul presents seven aspects of the Gospel and the Gospel Truth to these believers here at Colosse.
I. The Gospel Truth is RECEIVED by FAITH (vv. 3-4a)
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
A. Faith’s object is JESUS CHRIST
II. The Gospel Truth RESULTS in LOVE (v. 4b)
John 13:34, John 15:12, John 15:17
III. The Gospel Truth RESTS in HOPE (v. 5)
1 Thessalonians 2:19, Titus 2:13, 1 Peter 1:3
IV. The Gospel Truth REACHES the WORLD (v. 6a)
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16-John.3.17" class="scriptRef">John 3:16-17 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
V. The Gospel Truth PRODUCES FRUIT (v. 6b)
Here in John chapter 15 we are exhorted to:
*bear fruit (v. 4)*bear more fruit (v. 2)*bear much fruit (vv. 5, 8)
*bring forth fruit (vv. 2, 5, 16)*fruit that remains (v. 16)
A. The Kind of Fruit we are to bear:
1. The Fruit of PATIENCE (Luke 8:15)
2. The Fruit of RIGHTEOUSNESS (Hebrews 12:11)
3. The Fruit of HOLINESS (Romans 6:22)
4. The Fruit of the SPIRIT (Galatians 5:22-23)
*Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness,
Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance
VI. The Gospel Truth is ROOTED in GRACE (v. 6c)
Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Titus 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
A. Grow in Grace (2 Peter 3:18)
B. Stand in Grace (Romans 5:2)
C. Continue in Grace (Acts 13:43)
D. Abound in Grace (2 Corinthians 8:7)
E. Minister Grace (Ephesians 4:29)
F. Partakers in Grace (Philippians 1:7)
G. Strong in Grace (2 Timothy 2:1)
H. Established with Grace (Hebrews 13:9)
VII. The Gospel Truth is REPORTED by PEOPLE (vv. 7-8)
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
