A truthful witness saves lives, but one who breathes out lies is deceitful. — Proverbs 14:25

The last few years have significantly changed how we trust people. People we used to trust, we no longer trust. For example, to a greater degree, we used to trust people working in the fields of journalism, health care, and education. We extended them trust mostly because we had to. They were people we considered experts in areas we were not. But recent occurrences, sparked primarily by media and political leaders, have highlighted vast disagreements from people in these fields which have caused us to rethink how we trust and who we trust.

And here's the truth. The media wants us to distrust. Distrust compels us to listen. The problem is that training us to distrust leads us to question the truth, which leads us to question the people compelling us to distrust. It is a boomerang of distrust.

And this leads us to this proverb today. The second half states that the person "who breathes out lies is deceitful." In other words, when lying is second nature, like the act of breathing, it changes your character — literally who you are. And this is what many are attempting to do in the world. They are breathing out lies about people in an attempt to affect the other person's character. But what they fail to see is the boomerang effect — that it's affecting them.

And the only way to survive in a world that does this is to be truthful at all times. To be truthful, regardless of the cost. Yes, people may attack you for being truthful. But being truthful saves lives. It saves the lives of others and yourself by saving your character from deceit.

ASK THIS: To whom do you need to be truthful today?

DO THIS: Tell the truth at all costs.

PRAY THIS: God, I am untruth. Please help me to be truthful at all costs.
