And they came to Ephesus, and he left them there, but he himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. When they asked him to stay for a longer period, he declined. But on taking leave of them he said, “I will return to you if God wills,” and he set sail from Ephesus. — Acts 18:19-21

As Paul is heading back to Antioch, he does make a stop in Ephesus. And you’ll notice the reception appears good. The Jews even ask him to stay longer. But Paul is not persuaded.

And for me, this brought to mind all those moments that well-meaning, god-fearing people tried to persuade me to do something I was not supposed to do. And for me, fellas, this is challenging. It’s hard for me to say “no” to people you love who love you right back. But sometimes, we need to say “no.” Because saying “no” to their will, and even your will, is to say “yes” to God’s will.

So as you go throughout this day, look more intently for God’s will. But to do this, you are going to have to move your sights from your will. And at times, you will have to politely say “no” to the will of others, which might actually be saying “no” to yourself.

PRAY THIS: God, I have to say no to some things. Help to say “no” to them and say “yes” to you.
