Week 1: This Child – Brings Hope!
Anticipate Jesus
[Before you get started read 1 Peter 1:3-9]
1. [Discussion starter] What do you hope for? Advent is a time for anticipation, but it is easy to put our expectations on things that are uncertain. What things are certain and what things are unknown from your life?
2. Start by listing the things that Peter is thanking God for or blessings Him for in this text.
3. Verse 3 describes a living hope. How is it living and what does that mean? How does that living hope affect our lives today?
4. Verse 4 describes an amazing inheritance. Does that inheritance excite you, and if so, why? What makes the promises of God’s inheritance so much greater than anything we can describe or measure on this side of heaven?
5. Verse 5 starts with the word who. Whom is that describing? What is God’s power guarding? What images come to your mind when you think of God’s power guarding you?
6. Our faith can easily turn to doubt at any moment of trial. How come this faith has the statement of God’s power guarding it?
7. Verses 6-7 talk about trials and tests. What benefit can we gain from tests or trials? What are some of your priorities or values that have been molded through difficulties?
8. Verse 8 describes a deep, personal, loving relationship. How does that feed back to the topic of “This Child – brings Hope”
9. If you were talking to someone that looked or felt hopeless, what from this lesson would you be able to share with them to help them see, This Child?
