“This is Us: Baptism”
Matthew 3:1-15, Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38
Baptism is a public declaration of a new association. Baptism is not a condition of salvation. The New Testament uses lots of different images to help us understand all that baptism involves.
Daily Reading – This is Us – Baptism
Monday: Read Romans 6:1-11. How were we joined with Christ? In this passage, what does baptism represent? What is the result of baptism in vs. 4? What do you think vs. 6 means? How are we sure that we will live with Christ? Why did Jesus die?
Tuesday: Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-26. What do we learn about baptism in
this passage? Why is that important? What does it mean that we all share the same spirit? What do we get out of verse 18? Which part of the body is not needed?
Wednesday: Read Acts 22:6-16. Who is this passage talking about? Who did the voice say was talking to Paul? What was Paul told to do? Why do you
think it was important for Paul to obey even if he didn’t understand exactly what it was he was supposed to do? In vs. 16, what happens at baptism?
John 3: 1-8 and Titus 3:1-11. What does the Holy Spirit have to do with baptism? What does the Spirit reproduce according to John 3? In Titus, what does He give us through the Holy Spirit?
Thursday: Read Luke 22: 14-20. Jesus clearly states that the Passover
covenant is about to be fulfilled. What was the significance of that statement? What was the shift that was about to take place between the old covenant and the new covenant?
Friday: Read Acts 8:26-40. The passage the Ethiopian was reading was
prophecy about Jesus. What sticks out to you about the way Philip handled the situation? What do we learn about the role baptism plays in the life of a new believer? The Ethiopian didn’t have to wait until he had it all together. We learn that baptism often happens as people are first choosing to follow Jesus (a step we take toward the beginning).
