As is true for all the songs from our "Soulful Scripture Songs" project, this song is written directly from Scripture. The reference verse is:

Psalm 59:16 "But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. You have been my refuge, a place of safety when I’m in distress."

What I love about this Bible verse and the music it has been set to, is the sense of defiance in it. When I find myself in times of trials and pain, when other people around are turning away from God, I recite and sing - “But as for me…” I can and WILL sing [no matter what] about His power and love. I will also remind myself that He has, in fact, been my refuge and place of safety!
