Jesus was sent by God the Father which means he was sent to represent God and act in His name. To honor the Father a person needed to honor the Son who He sent to represent Him. Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word, and believes HIM who sent me.... John 5:24. Jesus spoke the words of the Father so to believe the words Jesus spoke was to believe God our Father. To reject the words Jesus spoke was to reject the Father because he spoke the Father's words.

If you reject the Father's word to you then you reject the Father. To dishonor the Father's word is to dishonor the Father. Jesus was that Word.
