THE OLIVET DISCOURSE. Matt. 24, 25.
THE JUDGMENT OF THE NATIONS…1 Matt. 25:31--46
The Lord Jesus Christ here concludes the answers to the questions asked by the disciples
Matt. 24:3, Mk. 13:3-4, Lk. 21:7 on these things, that is, the Temple and the City, the coming of
Christ as King, which to them will be the consummation and termination of the present age. The
Messiah would bring ‘the end of the world’, that is, the ‘close of this age’ and introduce the
coming age, the age of the Kingdom. The judgment of the nations by the King will terminate this
age and usher in a new age of the kingdom of the Messiah on the throne of David. The passage
obviously divides itself into v. 31-33, 34-40, 41-45, and 46.
1. Matt. 25:31. “When the son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with
him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory”

Ps. 50:3-6, Jude 1: 14-15, 2Thess. 1:6-9, Dan. 2:44-45; 7:13-14. In Act. 1:6-8, this
same Jesus you saw going to heaven will return in like manner. John said all eyes
will see Him Rev. 1:7.
c. ‘All his holy angels with him’ Rev. 19:14, Ps. 50: 4-5, Jude. 14-15 Zech. 14:4. “The
lord of Hosts, He is the king of glory” Ps. 24:10. The “hosts” are heavenly. The name
gathers into itself the idea of all divine or heavenly power as available for the need of
God’s people. Gen. 32:1-2, Is. 6:1-5, Lk. 2:13-15, 1kg. 22:19.
