Welcome to Calvary's Online Campus!
Have you ever read a Bible passage and had no idea what it meant? In this message, Pastor Robert dives deep into one of the most mysterious and awe-inspiring events in all of Scripture — the Transfiguration of Jesus, found in Mark 9:1-13.
Pastor Robert opens with a question that has puzzled Bible readers for centuries: When Jesus said “some standing here will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power,” what did He actually mean? Was He wrong? Was this a prophecy that failed? The answer is right there in the text — and it will change the way you read your Bible.
What You'll Learn:
1. What “taste death” means as a biblical idiom — and why taking it literally leads to confusion
2. Why Jesus took Peter, James, and John specifically up the mountain
3. What the Transfiguration reveals about the true glory of Jesus Christ
4. Why Moses and Elijah appeared — and what they represent (the Law and the Prophets)
5. What Moses and Jesus have in common and how Jesus fulfilled what Moses pointed to
6. Why Peter's offer to build three tabernacles missed the point entirely
7. What God the Father meant when He said “This is My beloved Son — hear Him”
8. Why recognizing people in heaven is biblical and makes total sense
9. How the Transfiguration was God's gift to the disciples to prepare them for the cross
10. The coming of Elijah, the two witnesses in Revelation, and end times prophecy
11. Why the “contradiction” between six days and eight days isn't actually a contradiction
12. How Jesus fulfills all of the Law and all of the Prophets
The Transfiguration is a pivotal turning point in the ministry of Jesus. Up until this point in Mark's Gospel, the focus has been on who Jesus is. Now the focus shifts to where Jesus is going — the cross. God pulled back the curtain and allowed Peter, James, and John to see Jesus in His glory, not to overwhelm them, but to sustain them through the darkest moment that was coming.
Moses saw God's glory on Sinai and had to veil his face. Now on the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses stands face to face with the glory of the Son of God. Elijah, who ran from Jezebel and asked to die under a juniper tree, now stands alongside the One who conquered death. And three frightened disciples got a glimpse of the King of Kings in His true form. The Father's words cut through the moment simply and powerfully: “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him.” That's still the message for us today.
We pray that you are blessed by the message!
