I Corinthians 2, Wisdom from God

V. 10-11 The Spirit reveals the deep things (also V. 14-15)

The mystery of God’s wisdom is something that the carnal mind can not understand, only a mind that has been renewed by the Holy Spirit can have this understanding. Romans 12:2 says that we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind, meaning that our understanding is changed. Things that we previously could not understand are now revealed to us by the indwelling of God’s Spirit. These deep mysterious things (v. 10) can only be understood by a mind that has been surrendered to Jesus Christ. In fact, verse 11 says that the things of God can only be truly understood by those who posses the spirit of God.

John 16:13 says that when the Spirit comes in that it will be what guides us in all truth. When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within a believer it opens them to the realm of absolute truth and the lies of this world are revealed to us. We see that our efforts are futile without Jesus Christ in our life and that the temporary things of this world pale in comparison to the eternal things of God. Our pursuits change from temporary treasure to eternal treasure that will never corrode or waist away. The Holy Spirit enlightens and empowers us to live the life of an overcomer instead as a life trapped as a victim. The deep things of God and His wisdom that seemed so elusive now become a part of who we are and guide out daily lives.
