I Corinthians 2, Wisdom from God

V. 12-13 Not of this world

The world is full of things that contrast; light and darkness, bitter and sweet, good and evil, truth and lies, loud and quiet etc. When things contrast there is a stark difference between them, and they never can be confused for each other. No one ever confuses darkness with light, and no one should ever confuse a true believer with someone of this world. The reason for this is laid out for us in verse 12 by the Apostle Paul. He said that a follower of Jesus Christ has the spirit of God dwelling inside of them and not the spirit of this world. We are different and it should be noticeable by everyone who interacts with us on are regular basis that the spirit of God dwells within our hearts.
In John chapter 17, Jesus is praying for His disciples and He in verse 16 He says, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” Jesus was saying that even though we walk on this earth just like everyone else this is not our home, and this is not where our heart dwells. We are visitors here acting as ambassadors for the kingdom of heaven which is our eternal home. The spirit of God that dwelling with in us means that we act, speak, love, and live differently than this world because the spirit of this world is not in control. The spirit of the world that used to dwell within us has been evicted and replaced with the Spirit of God who cleans house of the old and replaces it with the new.
