In John chapter 12, Jesus betrayal, arrest, and murder are just over the horizon and as He is talking to some of His friends He says this:

32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." 33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.

You've probably heard those verses before, maybe even lots and lots of times.

Jesus says, "if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself."

I want you to focus on that phrase "draw all peoples to myself."

A couple of things to notice... First of all, if you read this passage in a study Bible, the word "peoples" will be in italics. That let's you know the word wasn't in the original writings. It was added by translators in an attempt to make things more clear. Sometimes those additions like that help... sometimes they make a mess of things. But regardless, I want you to hear what Jesus is saying. "I will draw all to myself!"

That is a huge statement. He doesn't say I will draw a few. He says I will draw all to myself.

Now, as if that statement isn't big enough. Listen to this, the word translated as draw is the word helkō .

According to Strongs, it literally means "to drag."

Hhhhmmmm.... Jesus says, "I am going to drag all to myself!"

It sounds like Jesus plan is to not give up on anyone. It sounds like His plan is, and what He understood the purpose of His death to be on the cross and the full far reaching affects, was to undo completely what was done by Adam in Eden.

Remember, Adam did his thing and at that point in time one hundred percent of humanity began to run from God and hide.

And here Christ says, "I'm going to drag all to myself."

All of humanity from the time of Adam began to run from God and Christ says "I'm going to drag all to myself." What a contrast!
