1 Corinthians 3:5-9 "5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building."

I. A FAITHFUL PASTOR IS A SERVANT; GOD IS THE MASTER (v. 5)
II. A FAITHFUL PASTOR IS A PLANTER AND WATERER; GOD IS THE GROWER (v. 6)
III. A FAITHFUL PASTOR IS NOT ANYTHING; GOD IS EVERYTHING (v. 7)
IV. FAITHFUL PASTORS ARE NOT IN COMPETITION WITH OTHER FAITHFUL PASTORS; THEY ARE FELLOW WORKERS FOR GOD’S GLORY (v. 8-9a)
V. A FAITHFUL PASTOR IS LOOKING FOR ETERNAL REWARDS FROM GOD, NOT TEMPORARY REWARDS FROM MEN (v. 8b)
VI. A FAITHFUL PASTOR KNOWS THAT THOSE HE MINISTERS TO DO NOT BELONG TO HIM, BUT TO GOD HIMSELF (v. 9b)

CLARIFYING INSTRUCTION: What is the chief focus of pastors? Preaching the Word.

I) Pastors must preach the Word because the King commands it (v. 1)
II) Pastors must preach the Word, nothing less and nothing more (v. 2a)
(I) Pastors must preach all the Word (“the whole counsel of God”).
(II) Pastors must preach the the Hero of the Word (“we preach Christ”)
(III) Pastors must preach the heroic work of the Hero (“we preach Christ crucified” “I knew nothing among except Christ crucified”)
III) Pastors must preach the Word with a moments notice (v. 2b)
IV) Pastors must preach the Word by reproving, rebuking, and exhorting (v. 2c)
V) Pastors must preach the Word with complete patience and doctrine (v. 2d)
VI) Pastors must preach the Word, not what people want to hear (vv. 3-4)
VII) Pastors must preach the Word with a sober mind (v. 5a)
VIII) Pastors must preach the Word, expecting and enduring suffering (v. 5b)
IX) Pastors must preach the Word as an evangelist (v. 5c)
X) Pastors must preach the Word because it is their duty (v. 5d)

EXHORTATION
I) You must not worship any pastor
II) You must not disdain any faithful pastor
III) More than all of this, you must not disdain the Chief Pastor, the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 5:4; John 10:11; John 12:24)
IV) This is a Pastor you must worship: Pastor Jesus
