There comes a point where everything else has to fade. Accomplishments, reputation, even acts of righteousness—none of it compares to the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus. Paul wasn’t speaking in poetic exaggeration when he said it was all rubbish. He meant it. Everything that once seemed impressive or fulfilling becomes meaningless in the light of Christ Himself. That’s not the cry of a religious man—it’s the cry of someone in love.

The question isn’t about belief or church attendance or even service. The question is: is it really Christ that is loved right now? Not the idea of God. Not the blessings He gives. But the person of Jesus. His presence. His nearness. That’s what Paul wanted—just to know Him. And that’s the kind of hunger heaven recognizes.
