After turning a down sport’s scholarship to attend Charis, Javier Macias learned the keys to finding God’s provision when things didn’t make since in the natural. This is the story about how one young man from Victoria, Mexico discovered his gifting, his wife, and his ministry, just by seeking God’s Kingdom first.
When a freak car accident killed his father, Javier’s mother promised God that they would change their ways if he brought back her husband from the dead. To the surprise to the paramedics, he began breathing again.
Without a foundation of God’s word, the miracle of coming back to life, left the Macias family spiritually confused. For the next several years the family church hopped, growing more and more legalistic in their search for answers. Eventually the weight of it all became to much, and Javier’s parents got a divorce.
Hurt by his parent’s divorce, Javier rebelled against God. He hung out in the wrong crowds and found trouble anywhere he could in his hometown of Victoria, Mexico: a city of cartels and drug wars. Each time he would get offered something, a still small voice would speak-up, “I love you Javier, you don’t belong here, come home.”
Javier’s journey to finding home, led him Bobby Crow a long-time friend of Andrew Wommack. Pastor Bobby recommended Javier to attend Charis Bible College. Though he had a sport’s scholarship in Baseball, broken English, and hardly any money, Javier followed the peace of the Holy Spirit and enrolled.
During his first day at Charis Bible College, Javier met Alisha, a girl who like him, had given up a sport’s scholarship to pursue God’s Kingdom. Though wanted to date her almost immediately, Javier reminded himself to stay focused on his time at Charis.
In his effort to keep his eyes on Jesus, Javier faced yet another temptation. With only a student visa, Javier had little money and no option to make any more. When someone him a job that paid under-the-table, Javier asked Andrew Wommack for advice.
Andrew reminded Javier to do thing’s God’s way, and to sow his time and his talents into the Kingdom of God if he wanted to receive a harvest. That moment, Javier felt called to volunteer at Charis Christian Center, a church run by Andrew’s good friend Lawson Purdue.
Unaware to Pastor Lawson, Javier joined the volunteers in cleaning the church, stacking the chairs, and scrubbing down toilets in his church. While serving, Javier discovered someone else who had been called to sow in the very same way: Alisha. As the two worked side-by-side, they started dating throughout their third year, Javier in the Charis school of Ministry, Alisha in the Charis school of Worship. This would be the last time, their paths would seem to go in different directions.
Upon graduation, Javier returned to Mexico and Alisha to her home church in Washington. With thousands of miles between them and no plan to return to Colorado, Javier took another step of faith that made little sense in the natural: propose.
Eventually Pastor Lawson came to preach at Bobby Crow’s church, where Javier interpreted for him. Without knowing all the time Javier had invested into Charis Christian Center, Lawson Purdue felt led to offer Javier a job as a Youth Pastor in his church. In a moment, years’ worth of sowing from Javier and Alisha brought forth a harvest that would change their lives forever.
Today Javier and his wife Alisha, serve Lawson Perdue as both the Youth Pastor and Worship leader for the teenagers and young adults for Charis Christian Center. There they have seen healings, miracles and breakthroughs of every kind, as they share the truths they’ve learned from Charis Bible College.
As for Javier’s parents, after seeing all that God has done for their family, the two have remarried where they have enjoyed becoming Grandparents together for Javier’s and Alisha’s new-born baby.
This Charis Journey is a reminder to us all that when we seek first God’s Kingdom, He makes a way when there seems to be none. Giving us more than we can ask, think, or imagine, according to His power that works within us.
