If you want to describe what it means to be in relationship with God, and with Jesus in particular, here's the word: He's your Lord. He's not your buddy. He's not your partner. I intend to be His friend, but not in a diminishing or a disrespectful way. Being called Jesus' friend is a privilege. The Lord is not a genie meant to fulfill your wish list. If you approach Jesus with a "what do I get out of this" mentality, your heart needs to change.
