INTRODUCTION
In Acts 16:30-33, we find a familiar passage. In which Paul is confronted by the Philippian jailor. Who asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" This is a most important question. Salvation from sin is our greatest need. Romans 6:23. If one asks, "What Must I Do To Be Saved?" How should we reply? Well, consider first of all this is the most important question that has ever been asked.
The Bible clearly teaches that there is nothing more important than the human soul, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26.
The soul is so important because it will exist forever. Have you ever stopped to think that a billion years from now, you will still be in existence? Your soul will be in one of two places: Heaven or Hell. First, we must establish that there is a need to be saved. The Scriptures teach that whenever anyone who is of an accountable age (able to understand what it means to disobey) commits a sin, he is lost.
What is sin? “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4. Sin is a transgression of God’s law. When one transgresses God’s law, he separated from God.Isaiah 59:2.
The wages of this sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23. Sin causes one to be spiritually lost, separated from God.
Salvation is needed because sin separates mankind from God. When one is in this state, he is in need of asking the question; “What must I do to be saved?” Acts 2:36-38
The Bible puts forth several different things that one must do to be saved and accept the salvation offered by God.
• Hear: he Word of God.
• Believe: that Jesus is the Son of God.
• Repent: of your sins.
• Confess: your belief in Christ.
• Be Baptized for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38
• Be FILLED with the POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST SPEAKING IN TONGUES! Acts 1:8
I. THE NEED TO REPENT OF SINS
To repent is to turn from one’s sins. MEANS TO STOP SINNING. Jesus wants repentance, TURN FROM SINNING. It’s your soul and your responsibility.
THE NEED TO CONFESS CHRIST
Jesus taught of the necessity of confessing Him before others. Matthew 10:32-33. It is important to tell others about your decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. They became bold in their beliefs and confessed Him before others. This confession means to speak openly!
II. BELIEVING ON THE LORD
YOU MUST believe THAT JESUS IS LORD! Acts 16:31. This is consistent with what Jesus Himself taught. Believing in the Son is key to having eternal life THROUGH BAPTISM! John 3:3-5; 36. Unless we believe in Him, we will die in our sins. John 8:24. And so the apostles often proclaimed the importance of faith in Jesus.
The importance of faith in Jesus. That one might have eternal life in His name. John 20:30-31. This is why baptism is in the name of Jesus. That water washing you of all your sins when the name of Jesus is pronounced over it.
Do you have faith in the name of Jesus?! That believing with the heart leads to righteousness. Romans 10:9-10.
Presently, you are the son of this world the son of perdition, the son of the devil, the son of your Father the Devil. Well, you might feel offended and say, “Subrina, that’s pretty harsh!” Well, consider eternal life in HELL THAT’S EVEN HARSHER! I AM ONLY SAYING WHAT JESUS TAUGHT THOSE THAT WOULD NOT HAVE FAITH AND BELIEVE THAT HE IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.
Jesus says that you aren’t His Son. He says you are of your father the devil. Look what else Jesus says, in the book of Luke 6:46-48.
Having faith in Jesus and Obeying the Word of God is imperative to salvation, it is so vital, crucial, because of what the Bible says. PERIOD!
If one asks "What Must I Do To Be Saved?", how should we reply? We notice that the jailor and his family were baptized immediately. Acts 16:33. Baptism in JESUS NAME cuts away of the body of sins, your sins. Colossians 2:11-13. Peter later wrote that baptism saves us through the resurrection of Christ. 1 Peter 3:21
CONCLUSION
Paul proceeded to speak the word of the Lord to the jailor and his family. Acts 16:32. Take into consideration both the spiritual state of the inquirer and all that the Word of God reveals on the subject.
Have you responded to what the Bible teaches regarding salvation in Christ?
