INTRODUCTION

In  Acts 16:30-33, we find a passage. In which Paul is confronted by the Philippian jailor. Who asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

This is a most important question. Salvation from sin is our greatest need.  PLEASE READ, Romans 6:23. The answer must be according to the Word of God. Well, consider first of all.

THE NEED TO REPENT OF SINS.

Jesus wanted repentance to be preached in His name. Luke 24:46-47

The apostles preached the need to repent of sins. Peter did in his first two sermons. Acts 2:37-38; 3:19Acts 2:37-38 READ PLEASE

FUNDAMENTALS OF THE APOSTOLIC FAITH By Francis L. Smith (paraphrased EXCERPTS) THE DOCTRINE of SALVATION - MAN'S PART

FAITH
Salvation is approached from God's standpoint.  The first of these requirements is belief in God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that the man that comes to God must first believe that He exists. The Gospels also include belief as the first step to salvation (Mark 16:16; John 3:15, 16). (P. 22) God does not make anyone believe, but He does give everyone opportunities to believe.

REPENTANCE
Man's second requirement for salvation is repentance. Repentance is defined as a sorrowing for sin and turning from it. It is stronger than mere sorrow for an act and determined to forsake the act. In the New Testament command to repent means to change one's mind for the better, or to have another mind. The word for mind includes feelings, judgments, desires and purposes. Sorrow is often confused with repentance. Although sorrow is an element of repentance (II Corinthians 7:8-10), Sorrow alone is not repentance. Sorrow may be only the reaction from being found guilty, but unless the sorrow is sufficient to cause one to turn away from sin and toward God, it falls short of repentance. Repentance is a necessary element of salvation.

Matthew 3:2, Luke 13:3, 5, Mark 6: 12 God can ONLY FORGIVE SIN. HE ALONE grants the opportunity the chance for man to repent. Repentance is the turning away from sin. Man is responsible to ask God for forgiveness of his sins. God reveals Himself and His love to man and stirs man to respond. Man is then commanded to repent. But man is not forced to do so against his own will. He can yield or he can resist salvation according to the Scriptures.

BAPTISM
The third requirement for man to fulfill is baptism. Believing unto repentance is demonstrated by yielding to God's will. There are many who claim that baptism is not essential, but Jesus said in Mark 16:16 that whosoever believes and is baptized shall be saved. Peter tells us in I Peter 3:21 that baptism is a figure that saves us, and that it is the answer of a good conscience toward God. Mankind must be washed of their sins in the name of Jesus. Acts 2:38

In baptism, we are washed from our sins and we put on Christ in baptism. The Scripture reads in Galatians 3:27, Revelation 1:5, "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”.

HOLY LIVING
The fourth requirement on man's part is salvation is holy living. Hebrews 12:14 says that no man shall see God unless he lives holy. God provided the means to accomplish the holy life. The initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost is the same as it was in the days of the Apostles. THE HOLY GHOST IS POWER, ACTS 1:8! They spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. Acts 2:4, 10:45, 46. Matthew 5:1-12; Romans 12:1-21; Galatians 5; and Colossians 3. (End of Excerpt)

ALSO, CONFESSING JESUS BEFORE OTHERS IS A PART OF DISCIPLESHIP. TELLING OTHERS ABOUT OUR NEW BIRTH EXPERIENCE! Jesus taught of the necessity of confessing Him before others. Matthew 10:32-33

Believing in the Son is key to having eternal life. John 3:36. Unless we believe in Him, we will die in our sins. John 8:24.
