And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. — Acts 1:9-12

Over my lifetime, I cannot recall how many times I have had a mountain top experience just like the one the disciples have here. One that is so memorable you don't want it to end. It's often an experience that feels like you have seen the living and resurrected Christ. And while you don't want it to end. It has to end. And that's what these angelic beings are telling the disciples.

You see, our mountain top experiences are worshipful, and we need them. But at some point, we have to carry that worship out into everyday life. And so these disciples, just like us, have to come down from the mountain. They must literally walk down the Mount of Olives. The geographic location where they were was just a short distance from Jerusalem. In fact, they could look down on the famed city of Jerusalem. It was in full view. It was no more than 3000 feet from them, which is the max distance a Jewish believer could walk on a Sabbath Day. Thus the reference to a Sabbath Day's walk.

And I think it's that 3000-foot walk in our life that is critical. And here is why. On the mountain, God gives us a great message. We receive a message from God. It could be a message of conviction, repentance, revelation, or change. And this message is worshipful. But God wants us to carry the message 3000 feet. He wants us to bring it down the mountain with us, into our city, the region, and to the end of the earth.

So today, come down the mountain. Abraham had to come down the mountain. Moses had to come down the mountain. Elijah had to come down the mountain. Peter, James, and John had to come down the mountain. And so must we. So come down with enthusiasm sharing the message of what Christ has done in you.

ASK THIS: What message has God given to you? (Share it below.)

DO THIS: Share the message.

PRAY THIS: God, reveal your message through me to the world. May I carry it 3000 feet further today than I did yesterday.
