Our love for God must be supreme, in a sense that God is our first love. That's what the Bible says that the first and great commandment is that we would love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Then we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, and that refers to all men.

In the early days when I was a new Christian, I felt that Christianity is rather extreme. I know I have to love God but when I have to love God above all, and when I hear it for the first time, I was a little bit uncomfortable to say the least. I was told that I should love God more than my parents, and I was struggling.

Now I've been raise up thinking that filial piety - our love of parents - is important. And when you say that I've got to love God more that my parents, I was a little bit uncomfortable at that time. But when I started to think more about it, I realized it is absolutely right.

I mean as I've mentioned, that's what Jesus said, that's the summary of the Bible, that's how God has intended it to be that our supreme love should be God Himself. And then I realized that when we say we should love God more than our parents, it doesn't mean we stop loving our parents. In fact, I realized that if you love God, you would love your parents even more. That's the reality, when you seek to love God, you will love your parents even more. Because that's what God will give your heart, a love for others as you are soaked in His love.

So the Bible says in Psalm 27:10, "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up."

What a verse? Fathers and mothers are the closest people to us, apart from your wife, apart from your husband. But your parents are those who will have lived with you, raised you up, wept over you, sweated for you, they would have done so much for you. They would be in a sense the closest people to you, and yet there is a possibility that they may forsake you. Psalm 27:10 says, "When my father and my mother forsake me", when the dearest people forsake me, the Bible says, "then the Lord will take me up."

There is someone who will love you deeper, stronger, longer than your earthly parents will, and that is your God. When your closest dearest people forsake you, God will still love you. Thank God for parents today, but no one compares to God. He's faithful, He loves me because of who He is and He's unchangeable.

My friends, this is the great news, that there is someone who loves you even when the world forsakes you and that is God. How do you know He loves you? He has given you His Son on the cross, and whosoever believes in Him can be assured of the strong and unchanging love of God. Are you struggling with an identity in life? Are you wondering if there is anyone who will love you at all? The Bible says God loves you because He has given you His Son.

Turn from your sin, believe in Jesus, and then live your life in response to this great love of God. God bless.
