Questioned by the Roman governor Pilate, Jesus declares that his kingdom is not of this world. We often interpret Jesus to mean that his kingdom is spiritual and other-worldly, but that is assuredly not the case. While Jesus' kingdom is not from this world, it is definitely for this world. Unlike earthly kingdoms, God's kingdom advances by truth and sacrificial love rather than political power, but Pilate has no time for such kingdoms, and sadly, neither have many who claim to follow Jesus.
