Most of us want others to see our strengths and achievements rather than our weaknesses. But today's passage contains an event to which the apostle Paul (still called "Saul" in this passage) will refer later when he is challenged about his credentials. Rather than cite his achievements, Paul will refer to his inauspicious escape, being lowered over the wall in a basket. For Paul, this deeply humbling moment shows that the credit for Paul's achievements belongs to God rather than Paul. Have we been similarly humbled? Where do our lives point -- to God or to ourselves?
